  RPATS Client/Server - Rogers Communications
A cable industry project tracking tool (milestone based) with permit and contract tracking, IP segmentation, and a bill of materials package.
  RPATS Client/Server - Rogers Communications

Rogers Project Activity Tracking System (RPATS) is one of the most extensive applications we have developed. RPATS is designed to manage ongoing projects by ensuring realistic schedules are met and compiling detailed progress reports at the regional or corporate level. The software tracks all project timelines, construction contracts, manages IP segmentation requests, produces to-do lists by planner or department and oversees all pending and closed permits. Each project is tracked on a milestone basis and progress can be viewed by project, project type, planner, department, region, etc. All reports are exported directly to Excel where they can be further manipulated. Recently RPATS has been expanded to incorporate IP network segmentation tools along with an extensive Bill of Materials package tied to the existing project structure.

RPATS is built on a 3-tier client/server configuration with clients connecting via any TCP/IP interface. (LAN, Internet, Dialup, VPN, etc) The TCP protocols were all developed from scratch to optimize performance. Further performance improvements also include in-line data compression, request caching, a multi-threaded server, automatic client upgrade distribution and server side reporting. The server component also connects to various corporate databases to cross-reference information with other departments and import/export Redline projects.

RPATS is the primary project-tracking tool used by Rogers Cable and continues to be updated frequently. It is currently deployed across more than 750 workstations at Rogers.

  FibreMan - Rogers Communications
Fibre optic network design tool.
  FibreMan - Rogers Communications

FibreMan was a unique project for AutoSOFT. In this case a large fibre-optic network design database existed but the software needed to manipulate this data was no longer available. On a very tight timeline an application was developed to match the existing data structure and allow adding/editing of housings and fibre sheaths. The final application also includes automatic fibre routing, splicing, payload mapping, load balancing, etc. FibreMan is a stand-alone client application sharing a central database. Since it's inception FibreMan has continued to grow and is now deployed nationally throughout Rogers Cable.

Membership Database - Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television

The ACCT Membership software is truly the heart of the Academy's applications. This tool manages a database of people and companies affiliated with the Canadian film and television industry. It contains everything from contact information to agents, industry branches, regional affiliations, etc. With over 40,000 entries it is the one of the most comprehensive entertainment industry databases in Canada.

The Membership application also manages all aspects of the paid membership for the Academy from billing and generating invoices to maintaining a detailed history for each member. It brings the data together from all three offices (Ontario, Quebec, and Vancouver) into one central location for easy management and can produce financial reports on a national or regional basis.

This database also functions as the source for people and company information for all other applications at the Academy. This prevents any duplication of data and ensures one streamlined process through the entire organization.

  ALTS (Autocad Layer Translation System)
Convert collections of drawings between various user defined layer standards
  ALTS (Autocad Layer Translation System)

ALTS was designed for the engineering office faced with the task of sending/receiving Autocad drawings to/from multiple other contractors. One of the issues when working with a large number of other contractors is that each will define their own preferred layer structure in their Autocad drawings. A company forced to manage this varied set of formats will find this quickly becomes a tedious task for their staff. ALTS is capable of converting these varied layer formats to or from your preferred format.

Each unique vendor's layer structure is entered into ALTS (or can be extracted from a sample drawing) and saved along with your in house standards. When receiving drawings (single or a large batch) ALTS will translate their layers (colour, linetype, name, etc.) from the contractors standard to yours. ALTS can also translate drawings from your inhouse format back to any of the defined formats for drawings being sent out of the office.

PSMD & MDU Databases - Rogers Communications
Examples of our RapidDB application framework
PSMD & MDU Databases - Rogers Communications

Two good examples of our rapid database development are the Rogers PSMD (Power Supply Management Database) and MDUDB (Multiple Dwelling Unit Database) tools. Both of these applications were built using our RapidDB framework. In each case a full featured application was required on a very short timeline.

RapidDB is a flexible framework that allows a single or multiple teir database and application to be developed VERY quickly but still contain such usability fetaures as security levels, pick lists, flexible searching, and reporting to MS Excel or Word. All this is wrapped in a standalone application that presents the user with a simple straight forward interface. These applications also contain AutoSOFT's auto-upgrading features which allow automatic distribution of updates in multi-user environments.

Programs built from this framework can be taken from idea to finished application in a matter of days if required.

  ATOC-POS - A Touch of Crafts

A Touch of Crafts was one of the first craft stores in the Toronto area to operate under the 'booth rental' format. This application managed individual inventory and sales databases for each of the crafters, tracked monthly invoicing of rentals, and tied all this together into a custom point of sale system. At the end of each month reports were generated for each booth detailing sales, inventory, profit, etc.

Typeset Layout Script - Boat for Sale Magazine
Classified magazine layout scripting.
Typeset Layout Script - Boat for Sale Magazine

Boat for Sale magazine is the 'Auto Trader' of the marine community with a regular circulation of over 75,000 across Canada. The classified ads database is managed by a custom application integrated with both accounting and telemarketing. Each month the software exports the classified ad database to an automatic script that builds the layout for each section of the magazine in Ventura Publisher and imports the associated images / advertisements. The magazine is then shipped digitally to the publisher where it is printed straight to film. B.F.S. also has a web site based on Microsoft's ASP technology and each month the main database is uploaded for free public access. The magazine is an excellent example of what can be achieved with a very small staff using effective automation tools.
